Elisabeth Mann Borgese-trained concert pianist, author, and the only female founding member of the Club of Rome-found her own path early on, independent of her father Thomas Mann’s literary legacy.

As a young woman, she worked with her husband, the writer and anti-fascist Giuseppe Antonio Borgese, on the “Committee for World Constitution,” striving for a new world order to prevent future wars. She became known for her role as a co-author of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and as a passionate “Ambassador of the Oceans.” To this day, she shapes political and ecological debates.

On the occasion of the donation of her extensive estate by her daughter Dominica Borgese, Monacensia invites you to a special event: Dominica Borgese will speak with author and journalist Kerstin Holzer about her mother’s multifaceted legacy.

Actress Lisa Stiegler (Residenztheater) will read selected letters and documents that reveal Elisabeth Mann Borgese’s personal facets-as a political visionary, mother, and daughter.

With this donation, Monacensia expands its internationally significant collection on the Mann family. The new holdings include family correspondence, personal documents, photographs, early manuscripts, and materials on Elisabeth Mann Borgese’s peace and environmental activism.

A small reception will follow the event.
