With his unique monograph, Dieter Borchmeyer has presented the first comprehensive analysis of Thomas Mann's poetic and essayistic work. Borchmeyer not only describes the stages of Mann's life but examines the work in its totality, placing it in relation to its socio-historical, aesthetic, and world literary traditions while explaining its position within the intellectual climate of its time.
Dieter Borchmeyer, born in 1941, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Heidelberg, was President of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts, and continues to teach at the University of Heidelberg as part of the endowed lectureship "Heidelberg Lectures on Cultural Theory."
Martin Maria Schwarz, author, moderator, and literary critic at hr2-Kultur, will host the evening.
