"Tony was unmusical; most of the Buddenbrooks and all the Krögers were." It is only when Gerda, Thomas Buddenbrook's wife, moves in with her Stradivarius that music becomes a central part of the Buddenbrook life. Especially for Hanno, Gerda and Thomas's son, music is the elixir of life. For Thomas Buddenbrook, this becomes a stumbling block that diverts his son from the predetermined path of a merchant.
Actress Johanna Krumstroh reads excerpts from the novel Buddenbrooks, focusing on Hanno, Gerda, and Thomas and their connection and alienation through music. Oli Bott, with his vibraphone, captures the atmosphere and musical references of the text, congenially combining them with Thomas Mann's words.
The performance is a commissioned work from the Literaturbüro OWL.
The event takes place in cooperation with the European Hanseatic Museum.
