Thomas Mann delivered 59 radio addresses from his American exile during World War II. Author Lena Gorelik presents the new edition of the collection "German Listeners!" (S. Fischer) in conversation with Sebastian Guggolz. Actor Werner Wölbern will read selected passages.

Thomas Mann (1875-1955) is considered one of the most significant writers of the 20th century. Through him, the modern German novel achieved international literary recognition. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1929 and the Goethe Prize of the City of Frankfurt am Main in 1949. From 1933, Thomas Mann lived in exile, first in Switzerland, then in the USA. He returned to Europe only in 1952 and died in Zurich in 1955.

Lena Gorelik is an author, screenwriter, and journalist. She regularly writes about social issues for publications including Süddeutsche Zeitung and Die Zeit. In 2024, she was awarded the Heinrich Mann Prize by the Academy of Arts. Her most recent novel "Who We Are" (Rowohlt Berlin) was published in 2021, and in 2024, Lena Gorelik co-edited the anthology "Speaking Nevertheless" (Ullstein) with Miryam Schellbach and Mirjam Zadoff.

Sebastian Guggolz is an editor at S. Fischer Verlag and publisher of Guggolz Verlag. His most recent work as editor was the anthology "Kafka Read" (S. Fischer).

Werner Wölbern is an actor and voice artist. He was a permanent ensemble member of the Vienna Burgtheater and performed at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, Deutsches Theater Berlin, and Schauspielhaus Bochum. He has also appeared in numerous Tatort episodes and the Netflix series Dark and Babylon Berlin, and is a Professor of Acting at HfMDK.
